abstract | The method provides an improvement on the methanol carbonylation methods of the prior art, which substantially reduces the production of carbonyl impurities. It has been found that the production of carbonyl impurities, in particular acetaldehyde, crotonaldehyde and 2-ethyl crotonaldehyde, methanol carbonylation reactions, decreases, maintaining approximately 5% by weight or less of methyl iodide in the reaction medium during the course of the reaction. |
