Cosmetic or personal hygiene oil-in-water emulsions that include an emulsifier for the oil, a combination of a Xantane polysaccharide and a polyglucomannan polysaccharide to provide improved stability even at low levels of emulsifier / stabilizer. The emulsifying / stabilizing system provides stable emulsions without mastery of the rheology of the system, in particular of viscosity. Thus, the emulsions can have a low viscosity suitable for formulation as milks or diluted lotions, or they can be thickened, conveniently by means of different thickening agents of Xanthan and / or polyglucomannan, to provide emulsion creams or gels. This allows the system to be used very flexibly in end use applications. The emulsifier is conveniently a non-ionic emulsifier and in particular it is a combination of a low-value emulsifier HLB and a high-value emulsifier HLB and can be formulated with conventional alcoholic surfactant ethoxylates or from surfactants lacking EO, for example, high surfactants HLB value based on sucrose esters and low HLB surfactants based on citrate or sorbitan esters. |
