A method for selectively controlling unwanted vegetation by contacting the leaves with a herbicidal composition comprising a carboxylic or phosphonic acid salt that recognizably forms a coordination compound with calcium or magnesium salts. In a preferred embodiment, the carboxylic or phosphonic acid lasal is an alkaline salt of at least one acid selected from aminopolycarboxylic acid, aliphatic carboxylic acid, hydroxycarboxylic acid, amino acid, polycarboxylic ether, phosphonic acid and polyphosphonic acid. |
