titleOfInvention PREPARATION PROCESS OF A PREPARED POLYMERIC FOAM MATERIAL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROCESS
abstract Polymeric open-cell, flexible, micro-porous spongy materials with physical characteristics that make them suitable for a variety of uses. High temperature processes that have short cure times to prepare such spongy materials of internal high phase emulsions. A water-in-oil emulsion is formed whose oil phase comprises from 90% to 97% by weight of a monomer component capable of forming a copolymer having a glass transition temperature value of 15 * C to 50 * C and of 3 to 10% by weight of the emulsifying component, while the aqueous phase comprises an aqueous solution containing from 0.2 to 40% by weight of a water-soluble electrolyte and an effective amount of a depolymerization initiator; the emulsion having a volume-to-weight ratio of the aqueous phase to the oil phase of between 13: 1 to 65: 1 preferably, a means is provided to minimize the volatilization of the emulsion components; and the monomer component is cured in the oil phase of the water-in-oil emulsion using a polymerization reaction that is performed at a cure temperature, the cure temperature being between 90 * C and 250 * C to form a polymeric spongy material . The monomer component may comprise 40 to 70% by weight of a monomer that is selected from the group consisting of C4-14 alkyl acrylates, aryl acrylates, C6-16 alkyl methacrylates, dienes, C4-12 alkyl styrenes and mixtures of these; 15 to 23% by weight of a co-monomer that is selected from the group consisting of styrene, ethyl styrene and mixtures thereof; and 5 to 18% by weight of divinyl benzene. The aqueous phase may comprise 1 to 40% calcium chloride.
