Certain antimicrobial agents, particularly chitosan or chitin-based polymers, exhibit increased antimicrobial activity when coated on the surface of a hydrophobic material such as polypropylene. When applied to the surface of a randomly woven fabric of polypropylene, for example, the resulting material can be used for honeycomb coatings to reduce odors and promote skin well-being. The method comprises coating a hydrophobic surface with a chitosan material where the amount of the chitosan material is greater than 0.005 grams and less than 2.5 grams. With this method an antimicrobial structure is defined that is applied in the conformation of wet towels and garments for personal hygiene. |
