titleOfInvention METHOD FOR THE PREPARATION OF CITALOPRAM AND ANTIDEPRESSIVE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS THAT INCLUDE PREPARED CITALOPRAM.
abstract A method for the preparation of citalopram is described which comprises the reduction of the oxo group of a compound of formula IV where R 1 is CN or C 1-6 alkyloxycarbonyl or C 1-6 alkylaminocarbonyl, effecting the closure of rings of the hydroxyresulting compound, by which it is obtained The corresponding 1 (4-fluorphenyl) 1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran, then if R 1 is cyano, using it directly in the next step and if R 1 is C 1-6 alkyloxycarbonyl or C 1-6 alkylaminocarbonyl, the conversion of the compound into the corresponding compound where R 1 is cyano , and the alkylation of the 5-cyano compound resulted with 3-dimethyl-aminopropyl halide under basic conditions by which citalopram is obtained; and antidepressant pharmaceutical compositions that comprise citalopram manufactured by the method.
