| abstract | A reactive composition for extracting metal values present in aqueous solutions, particularly copper values, insoluble in water, comprising an aldoximetric extraction agent and an equilibrium modifier under a molar ratio of aldoxim modifier ranging between 0.2 and 1.5, effective amount to provide a net copper transfer greater than that achieved in the absence thereof, and optionally up to 20% by weight of an additive, while said modifier containing up to 36 carbon atoms is selected from the groups consisting of aliphatic compounds and aromatic and araliphatic selected from the group consisting of: (i) ethers and alcohols with the exception of: (a) alkanols containing up to 20 carbon atoms and (b) highly branched alkanols and esters containing up to 30 carbon atoms and having a relationship from methyl groups to non-methyl groups greater than 1: 5 (ii) polyethers, (iii) ethers, with the exception of nonyl anisole, (iv) ester-ethers, (v) oximes, (vi) ketones, (vii) nitriles, (viii) carbonates, (ix) amides, (x) sulfoxides, and (xi) salts of amines and compounds of quaternary ammonium. Said aldoxime is an aldoxime hydroxy of the formula (I) in which a is 1, 2,3, or 4, R is a saturated aliphatic group having between 1 and 25 carbon atoms or an ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic group having between 3 and 24 carbon atoms, while the total number of carbon atoms in Ra ranges between 3 and 25. The reactive extraction composition can also comprise a second modifier, which is selected from the group consisting of an alkanol having between 6 and 18 carbon atoms, an alkyl phenol in which the alkyl group contains between 7 and 12 carbon atoms, and tributyl phosphate. A water-immiscible hydrocarbon solvent solution, such as kerosene, which comprises the reactive extraction composition described.
