abstract A process for the preparation of amides and heteroaryl carboxylic esters of the formula I in which one or two of the groups A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5 represent a nitrogen atom and each of the other groups independently represents CR3, Halrep represents a halogen atom, X represents O or NR2; R1 represents C1-10 alkyl, C3-8 aryl, C5-8 heteroaryl or optionally substituted C3-8 cylcoalkyl, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-10 or R1 and R2 alkyl group together with the ring and forms a C5-8 heterocyclic group and each R3 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-10 alkyl group; characterized in that it consists of the following steps: a) heating a mixture consisting essentially of a compound eroaryltrichloromethane of formula II, in which Hal and A1 to A5 are as defined above and 1.0 to 1.5 equivalents of concentrated sulfuric acid, b) reacting the intermediate product obtained in step (a) with an amine or alcohol of the formula (III) in which X and R1 are as defined above , optionally in the presence of a diluent and / or a base; and intermediary compounds. The amides and heteroarylcarboxylic esters are intermediary suitable for the preparation of a wide variety of useful compounds such as agrochemicals or pharmaceuticals. In particular, they are key intermediates for the preparation of aryloxyheteroarylcarboxamide herbicides that have been described. Therefore, one of the objectives of the present invention is to present a new and efficient process for the preparation of amides and heteroaryl carboxylic esters with high yield and high purity. The novel process allows the production of heteroarylcarboxamides to be carried out in the technical scale and with high yields using easily acquired reagents.
