titleOfInvention A COMPOSITION FOR THE TREATMENT OF MASTITIS AND A METHOD TO REDUCE MICROBIAL POPULATIONS ON A TIT OF A DAIRY ANIMAL
abstract A physically and chemically stable composition for treating mastitits comprising an acidifying part and a chlorite part, a composition that can effectively reduce microbial populations in contact with a theta surface and for a prolonged period. The composition comprises: (a) an acidifying part comprising organic ingredients, such organic ingredients comprising: (i) about 0.1 to 15 parts by weight of a weak antimicrobial microbial acid or a salt thereof or a mixture thereof; (ii) about 0.1 to 15 parts by weight of a weak organic or inorganic acid, or salts thereof, or mixtures thereof, the acid being selected from the group consisting of a phosphoric acid or a lactic acid; and (iii) a higher proportion of water; and (b) a part of chlorite, substantially free of an organic component, consisting essentially of an alkali metal salt of chlorite; wherein the composition exhibits a rheology that promotes adhesion to immobilize the composition on the surface of the teat and provides a barrier against environmental contamination.
