| abstract | N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) compositions comprising a combination of DEET and a liposome. Said compositions possess the ability to repel insects and to prevent parasitic diseases caused by parasites that penetrate the skin, in particular schistosomiasis. Liposomes can be anionic, cationic, or neutral. Said combination of DEET and a liposome is advantageous since it retards the absorption of DEET by the superficial layers of the skin and thus allows to prolong the activity of DEET in the skin and also to use lower concentrations of DEET in an effective way, with which which reduces all possibility of toxicity associated with absorption. |
