titleOfInvention A STABLE WATER OIL EMULSION FOR A SKIN CONDITIONING COMPOSITION AND A METHOD FOR PREPARING SUCH EMULSION.
abstract A stable oil-in-water emulsion for a skin conditioning composition that said emulsion comprises: (a) an oily phase comprising between 0.1% and 50% by weight of the emulsion, of oil droplets comprising a fluid oil and between 0 0.01% and 10%, by weight of the emulsion, of a retinoid that is selected from retinol, retinyl acetate, and retinyl propionate, where the retinoid is solubilized in the oil; (b) between 50% and 98% of an aqueous phase; and c) between 1% and 20% by weight of the emulsion, of a barrier ingredient comprising a crystal-forming compound and a crystal-size compound, where the barrier ingredient provides a crystalline barrier layer between the oil droplets and the cuous phase, where the average size of an individual crystal in the barrier layer, determined by means of a microscopic crystal size determination test, is between 1 µm and 50 µm; and where the ratio of the size of a single drop of oil to a single crystal in the barrier layer is between 5: 1 and 100: 1; and where the melting point of a mixture of the fluid oil and the barrier ingredient is between 40C and 100C. Emulsion oil in stable water is prepared by a procedure comprising: (1) preparing an aqueous phase and heating between 75sC and 80C, while mixing; (2) prepare a mixture, of a fluid oil and barrier ingredient compounds and heat between 75 and 80 C while mixing; (3) slowly add the mixture from step (2) to the aqueous phase; (4) mix the mixture obtained in step (4) at a temperature between 50sC and 55C, while mixing; (6) place storage containers.
