The present invention provides a method of imparting tolerance to a tryptophan-like amino acid in plant cells by introducing and expressing an isolated segment of DNA encoding an anthranilate synthetase in plant cells. Transgenic plants transformed with an isolated DNA segment encoding an anthranilate synthetase are also provided, as well as seeds and progeny derived from those plants. It also provides a cDNA sequence of an alpha bunity and a beta subunit of a maize anthranilate synthetase. |
