abstract | A process for the preparation of imidazodiazepine derivatives of formula (I), wherein: A together with the two carbon atoms designated alpha and beta is one of groups (a), (b) and (c); R1 is cyano or a group of the formula -COOR4; R2 is hydrogen; R3 is straight or branched chain alkyl containing at most 7 carbon atoms; or R2 and R3 together are a di- or trimethylene group; R4 is straight or branched chain alkyl containing at most 7 carbon or benzyl atoms; and R 5, R6 are each hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, trifluoromethyl, straight or branched chain alkoxy containing at most 7 carbon atoms. carbon or nitro and the carbon atom designated by Y has the S configuration when R1 is different from hydrogen, the process of which comprises reacting a compound of formula (II), where A, R2 and R3 have the meaning indicated above and X represents a fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, in the presence of a base with a compound of formula (III), in which R7 is straight or branched chain alkyl containing at most 7 carbon or cycloalkyl atoms and R1 has the meaning indicated above . |
