| abstract |
A composition comprising a resin and a hardener therein wherein the hardener comprises dimethylol urea and optionally oxazoline. Lamethylol urea can be used in combination with oxazolidine in ratios that are within the range of 5:95 to 95: 5, on a molar basis. The resin of the composition can be a resorcinol resin such as resorcinol-formaldehyde or phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde. The hardener crosslinks the resin that allows the reduction or fuming of formaldehyde as well as controls the gelation times of the resulting adhesive. The composition hardener of the present invention is of particular utility in adhesives for use in the forest products industry. Wood products adhered by means of the composition are further described. |
